CLUB HISTORY

[Original Clubhouse

Officially, the Grand Centre Golf & Country Club commenced operations in 1961. Seven local residents began with a vision of the golf course to come.

The original seven were : Grant Hetherington, Steve Mahdiuk, Jess Bigelow, Don Webb, Don Cook, Art Josvanger, and Percy Halldorson. They started out by searching the local area to find the perfect site and once the present site was found they began to sell shares. Shares were available for $25.00 ea. The purpose of the shares was to purchase the required land. 101 shares were sold and Grand Centre Golf and Country Club became a reality.

Many local merchants contributed to the needs of the course donating equipment and supplies.
Committees were formed, leagues were started, the birth of a new enterprise was born.

Originally the course began on sand greens and later upgraded to artificial turf.

[New Clubhouse

In1987 a new clubhouse was added , which included a concession, light meals, licensed lounge and Pro Shop.

The course completed it next growth period and opened with nine grass greens on May 11, 1994.

After a few challenging years of operation, it was decided to go ahead with the construction and opening of the "Back Nine". This project was undertaken in the year 2000 with the opening taking place in June of 2001.

This expansion completes our long range major course plans. However, we will continue to update our existing facilities in order to provide you with the best Golfing Experience available. Two prominent additions in the past couple of years have been our Tournament House to enable us to host larger Tournaments and our three position driving net. We have moved and greatly increased the number of our privately owned Golf Cart shelters. We have completed a chipping and pitching area with a green of its own which is now in use.

During the past winter we added an extension to the south side of our clubhouse which houses a Pro Shop and the Managers Office.  We also moved our washrooms  to the locker rooms in the basement which greatly increased our restaurant space.  Our kitchen facilities and exterior facade were also modified.
